How Many Diyas Should Be Light On Diwali??

Diwali is a festival of lights, hopes & prosperity. This is the largest of all festivals in India. Usually, it lasts five days and each day has significant importance.  

 

This year Diwali will be celebrated on October 24, 2022. The long celebration will start with Dhanteras and ends with Bhaiya Dooj. The festival of Diwali is celebrated on the darkest night of the year in the Hindu month of Kartik on Amavasya.

According to astrology, there is a Surya graham (Solar eclipse) on the next day of Diwali this year. So according to the Hindu calendar, the Hindu new year will be celebrated on the next day of Grahan i,e. October 26, 2022. 

 

This day is celebrated differently in different regions of India. Some of the regions will celebrate a new year and some of the regions will celebrate as Govardhan puja.

 

Festivals seek to bring together people from all backgrounds in joy and celebration. From buying and wearing new clothes to lighting Diyas. We celebrate Diwali with lots of Diya decorations, Diwali lights, home decorations, Rangoli and Diwali gifts. Each element has a different significance. 

When we light Diyas and decorate with lights and candles, it represents the triumph of light over dark, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance and hopes over despair ideology that forms the basis of every Indian family’s moral principle. 

 

People light up Diyas, and earthen lamps to mark the festivities. It is believed Diyas keep negative energy away. 

 

How many Diyas should be lit on different days of this five-day-long festival!!

 

On Dhanteras as per ancient scriptures and religious texts, 13 Diyas are lit. As per popular belief, these thirteen lamps are dedicated to Lord Kuber, who is considered the owner of wealth, valuables and splendours. Dhanteras is a time to illuminate your home throughout by lighting thirteen candles in various locations of the house. 

On Chhoti Diwali or Chaturdashi, lighting 14 candles or Diyas is auspicious. 

On Diwali or Badi Diwali, according to Hindu tradition, there should be a total of 13 Diyas lighted and each one has a special meaning. According to Hindu mythology who light thirteen Diyas during Diwali & Dhanteras will be blessed with good health & prosperity. 

 

So bring happiness to your home this Diwali by lighting lots of Diyas, decorating your home with candles, candles and lights, making rangoli with family, gifting each other and wishing all with best wishes.
